William Robert "Bill" Miller

William Robert “Bill” Miller, 73, of Raleigh, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026. A devoted husband, loyal friend, and trusted colleague, Bill was a man whose kindness, steady guidance, and warm presence touched the lives of everyone who knew him. He was the perfect match for his beloved wife, Diane, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage—a partnership built on deep love, humor, and unwavering devotion.

Born on December 15, 1952, in Battle Creek, Michigan, Bill made North Carolina his lifelong home. He graduated from UNC Pembroke with a degree in Biology and later served his country honorably in the Army National Guard for six years.

Bill began his career in the insurance industry with GAB before joining Nationwide Insurance, where he dedicated 35 years serving in numerous leadership roles. His integrity, quiet strength, and ability to mentor and encourage others earned him the admiration and respect of colleagues across the company.

Bill cherished his family above all else. He is survived by his loving wife, Diane; his sister Carol Pryer (Christopher); and his brother-in-law Marshall Ray. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Ashley Brown (Patrick), Max Pryer (Airy), Christian Pryer (Jen), Jill Hernly (Clay), and Todd Ray (Chris); along with several great-nieces and great-nephews. Bill also deeply loved his cherished godchildren, Matthew James Finnegan and William Brian Finnegan.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Jean Miller, and by his dearly loved sons, William Scott Miller and Brian Ray Miller.

Bill will be remembered for his generosity, loyalty, humor, and the quiet comfort he brought to others. His legacy of love and kindness lives on in the many people fortunate enough to have known him. He loved his lake family and spending time with them on the docks and the water.

Bill was a true friend to all who knew him and he will be dearly missed.

Bill’s celebration of life will be at 1:00 pm on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at North Raleigh United Methodist Church located at 8501 Honeycutt Road, Raleigh, NC. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Transitions LifeCare at transitionslifecare.org or Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) at madd.org

My name is Patty Gibbs. I worked with Bill at Nationwide Insurance Claims Dept in Fayetteville for a number of years. Bill was admired by all in the office as he was always willing to help in any way. He was a good friend to all. My husband Randy and I got to know Bill and Diane and we loved them both. Our sympathy to all. May he rest in peace with the Lord.

We've lost a good man. Little did we know in 1989 when Bill, Diane, Scott and Brian opened their hearts and home to the teenager from "up North" that the Finnegan's would quickly become family. Jim, Matthew and Will benefited from Bill's mentoring, guidance, council, kindness, generosity and most of all his love. The last few years have been a challenge for Bill and Diane. Diane has been at Bill's side always showing her support and love. She's a very special lady. Bill is now at rest with Scott and Brian. We wish we could have had more time but that was not to be. Rest in peace dear friend, rest in piece. Lesley and Joe Finnegan

Gosh, I met Diane in my earliest years of teaching and quickly got to know Bill - or Mill Biller - as he lovingly became known in our group of friends. He was always such a joy to be around and will be missed so much. I love you, Diane, and hope the memories of him will help you through your grief. Joanne Essey Boardman
