William James Schultz

William James Schultz, 86, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend passed away peacefully on September 15, 2025, with his loving wife of sixty-five years, Jeanette E. (Maloney) Schultz, at his side. We are comforted by the full assurance that William is in heaven, reunited with the Lord he faithfully served. He was born on October 30, 1938, to the late Louis J. and Margaret J. Schultz. Raised on the family farm on Wolf Road in Colonie, William learned the value of hard work from an early age. Though his formal schooling ended early in his life, he went on to build a successful life defined by perseverance, faith, and deep love for his family.

After proudly serving in the U.S. Navy during the late 1950s, including time stationed in Kodiak, Alaska, William carried with him a strong sense of honor and justice. While there, he defended a fellow sailor against injustice, a stand that came at great personal cost but revealed his lifelong courage and moral conviction.

Upon returning home, William married the love of his life, Jeanette. Together, from the basement of their home in Glenville, NY, they founded Schultz Construction. What began as a small family effort grew into a successful heavy construction company, built on his integrity, attention to detail, and commitment to doing what was right.

Beyond his work, William lived his values every day. He was a guardian to his niece, welcomed family and friends into his home as his own, and showed his children and grandchildren—by both word and example—what it means to live with honor, kindness, and unconditional love. His legacy is reflected in the way his family continues to carry forward his work ethic, faith, and compassion. He also had a wonderful sense of humor, often playing practical jokes that kept his family laughing and reminded them not to take life too seriously. Known for his strong handshake and his love of an impromptu arm-wrestling match, he left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

During a difficult time in his life, William turned to God and found strength and peace in his faith. From then on, he dedicated himself to prayer and ministry, often seen offering street prayers and guiding others toward hope and belief. Above all, he showed how to love steadfastly—his devotion to Jeanette and his family was unwavering. His life was a testament to hard work, sacrifice, and a faith-filled heart, and he will be remembered always for the lessons he taught simply by the way he lived. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, Raleigh, NC, and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, his devotion to his faith was steadfast.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jeanette, his six children William M. (Suzanne), Terri Boland (Timothy), Daniel (Michele), Jeanne Galligan (Rod), Louis (Suzanne), and Edward. William is also survived by his 18 grandchildren, Ellen (Stephen), Kelly (Brandon), James (Rebeccah), Samantha (Gregory), John (Brandi), Gregory (Amanda), Jared (Brianna), Nicholas, Dean, Luke, Mitch, Jake (Meera), Ben (Chloe), Julia (Logan), Grace, Anna Marie, Matthew and Lauren; his fourteen great-children, Haiden, John, Logan, Charlotte, Timothy, Helen, Sadie, Gregory, Keegan, Kristen, Dezi, Jaxon, Aria and Rozlyn; brothers Harold “Hal” and Roger Schultz, sister Maureen Schultz, sister-in-law JoAnne Daly and Arlene Turner, along with countless nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with William’s family Friday, September 19, 2025, at 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Renaissance Funeral Home, 7615 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27615. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 20, at St. Luke the Evangelist, 12333 Bayleaf Church Rd., Raleigh, NC 27614, at 11:00 am with the Rite of Committal held at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens, 770 Stadium Dr., Wake Forest, NC 27587.

Those wishing to honor William can donate in his memory to Veterans Life Center North Carolina

So sorry to hear about your loss. Such a good man and great family. Always grateful for helping me out back when I was a young lad. I still chuckle about how he simply explained to Dan and me on how to run faster. "...you just move your legs faster". And he could move his pretty fast like on the racquetball court. Tough to beat. Peace to the family.

I will always remember Uncle Bill (Roger Schultz is my father in law) when Lou and I got married. He had an amazing van with scripture all over it. Bill's passion for his faith was evident and admirable. Wonder how many lives he changed with that van? Our fondest regards and so much love to Bill's family. Love, Simona and Roger S. Schultz (and Lou in heaven)

My name is David Davenport. I was the scrappy neighbor kid who lived about a mile from the Schultz family in Ballston Lake, NY, up until I was 17 and joined the Navy. Danny has always been my best friend, and I am grateful for the honor of occasionally visiting him and his amazing family in California, where I now live as well. Today is about honoring the life of Mr. Schultz and saying goodbye, while also supporting his beloved wife, children, and friends. How do you do all that in such a short time? You do it by talking about them all—because that's the way Mr. Schultz would have wanted it. Mr. and Mrs. Schultz were pillars of strength in Ballston Lake. At our local country store, Lake Side Farm, it always seemed as if the room grew smaller when they walked in—their presence was that powerful. Mrs. Schultz carried herself with elegance that rivaled royalty, and Mr. Schultz stood proudly at her side. The truth is, there was no Mr. Schultz without Mrs. Schultz. As a devoted husband, he leaned into her great strength, and together they built a foundation of love and family. Let me share just a couple of memories. On December 23, 1980, my family's house caught fire. Mrs. Schultz, driving by as firefighters battled the flames, pulled over, called me into her car, and told my father she would take care of me. That night I slept in Danny's room, wearing clothes from half of Danny's closet, which Mrs. Schultz had split down the middle to share with me. Mr. Schultz accepted me into their home without hesitation—without question. Another time, after Danny and I got into trouble at school, Mrs. Schultz showed up to meet with the principal. When he said something negative about me, she immediately defended me, corrected him, and then left the office. Of course, Danny and I were still in trouble—but I knew I was loved and protected. I always felt like family in their home. Mrs. Schultz corrected me when I spoke wrong, and I listened with respect. At 17, when I joined the Navy, she was the only person I wrote letters to—and the only one who ever wrote me back. Just three years ago, during dinner in La Jolla, she handed me those same envelopes—the letters I had written as a teenager. She remembered me. She always remembered me. So why have I spoken so much about Mrs. Schultz? Because she was—and is—Mr. Schultz's greatest strength. He would want her acknowledged. Together they built a beautiful family, one I am blessed to know and love to this day. In closing, I would like to share a poem I wrote, one that may provide some comfort. ‐------- Missing Dad By David Davenport I am sorry for your loss And can't imagine how you feel I pray for your family His passing so unreal Dad's loving heart And life's gifts will remain With people he touched Their lives ever changed His soul lives with you In your memory and heart Where he'll always be smiling And you'll never be apart Grieve as you will And take the time you need To honor your Dad's life From this earth he is freed God Bless you and your family

I am so deeply saddened by the loss of My Dear Uncle Bill. This wonderful man took be under his wing as a teenager for several months when I was basically homeless! He treated me with such kindness and love, love that I had not known even existed in this world ! He was a loving, kind Uncle , or actually taught me the meaning of "Love"! He was so funny too! Uncle Bill wanted to shake hands with every guy I dated! The next day he would say, how was your date with Tex Ritter? How was your date with "Mouse", you have a stronger handshake than him! I would laugh for hours! He was the sweetest, most lovable man I ever meet, by far, dear Uncle Bill. May the Lord keep him, I will love him to my end of days! God Bless and keep you, I love you so much! Godspeed, Love ,Ellen
