Sandra Floyd Harvey
April 29, 1941 - May 31, 2026
Sandra Floyd Harvey
Sandra Floyd Harvey, 85, passed peacefully on Sunday, May 31, 2026. Her daughter, Linda, was by her side. Born on April 29, 1941, in Atlanta, Georgia, Sandra was the second of five children of her late parents John Roquemore Floyd and Martha Ray Floyd Meyers.
Beautiful, stoic, kind and open-minded, Sandra enjoyed a wonderful and full life growing up with her four siblings (Rocky, Tina, Margie and Larry); raising her three children (Charisse, Kent and Linda); grandmothering her grandchildren (David, Eric, Amanda, Orion and Layla); fostering long-time friendships (Arlene, Peggy L, Mitch and more); beautifully decorating homes (hers and those of others); designing gourmet kitchens; cooking gourmet meals; enjoying fine food and drink; hosting and entertaining friends and family; traveling and experiencing the many diverse cultures of the world with her late husband, Shields Harvey.
Sandra’s youngest child, Linda, attributes her deep love and compassion for all animals and the natural world in which they live to her mom’s influence. Sandra took much comfort and joy in spoiling, caring for and loving her furbabies (Wimpy, Mandy, Flake, Sam, Cleo, Mr. Lucky, Miss Priss), her granddogs, and even neighborhood cats and dogs. Sandra relished quiet moments - coffee or glass of wine in hand, depending on the time of day - watching nature, whether the local fauna (squirrels and birds) or the more exotic wildlife (lions and tigers and bears, oh my!) encountered on her travels across the planet.
Loved by many, Sandra will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Saah and granddaughter Layla Saah, as well as sons-in-law Ethan Shapiro, Royden Saah, and Nathan Etheridge; daughter-in-law Lisa (Fogelson) Curlis; grandchildren David Shapiro, Eric Shapiro, and Amanda Fogelson Corbett; and great grandchildren Dominic Shapiro, Molly Corbett, Kendall Corbett, and Kai Corbett. Sandra is also survived by her youngest brother, Larry Floyd and his wife Diane Floyd, and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Sandra is preceded in death by two of her children, Charisse and Kent Fogelson; grandson Orion Saah; husband Shields Harvey; brother John “Rocky” Floyd; sisters Tina Patton and Margie Downing; and parents John Floyd and Martha Meyers.
To honor Sandra’s wishes, a funeral service will not be held. Close family and friends will be invited to a privately held internment ceremony of both Shields’ and Sandra’s ashes this fall at the beautiful Maplewood Cemetery in Durham, NC.
Heartfelt donations to a charity of your choice may be made in Sandra Harvey’s honor.
