Robert William Sullivan

Robert William Sullivan, 85, of Raleigh, NC, passed away peacefully at home on February 20, 2026. He was born in Manchester, NH, on July 5, 1940, son of the late John Joseph Sullivan and Bertha "Connie" Messier Sullivan.

Bob was educated in Manchester, NH, and started his career in the insurance claims field there. He later moved to Washington, D.C. and began a lifelong working relationship with a major worldwide company, remaining with them for a total 53 years. This was interrupted for two years when he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was proud to serve his country, spending most of the time stationed in Germany.

Bob loved his job and left for work every day with a broad smile and a positive attitude. His job took him to many countries and blessed him with colleagues who loved him as much as he loved them. Being of Irish and French-Canadian descent, Bob was a magnificent storyteller and avid traveler, leaving his footprints on 6 continents and 69 countries.

Bob is survived by his loving spouse, Mary; son John; daughter Kimberly; granddaughter Jasmin; and many dear family members near and far.

He is also survived by his three much-loved siblings: John (Mary) Sullivan, Nancy Suyo, and Joseph Sullivan.

A Celebration of Bob's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Renaissance Funeral Home, 7615 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27615. All are welcome.

Special thanks are extended to Heartland Hospice for the exceptional care and understanding given to both Bob and Mary by their staff during Bob's last weeks fighting cancer.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate in Bob's memory to any organization or cause which fights in earnest to end this terrible disease.

I'm just an acquaintance to Bob, but he made you feel like family! His laugh and the twinkle he had in his eye always special to be graced with. The word for Bob is "a charming gentleman!" Rest in peace now and know that many people love and miss you!

Just a great guy! The best friend anyone could possibly have. And, as a fellow employee in a company that Bob devoted himself to for over fifty years, I respected him and loved him for many of those years. There are no equals to the great person so loved as "Irish Bob". We send our love to Mary and family. He will be missed and forever remembered as the best this world has to offer. Mary, there are so, so many wonderful memories that will remain forever. Your strength will prevail and Bob would have wanted it that way. With much love, Bill and Susie Wilkinson

Bob was one of the most kind, loving and amazing person I had the privilege of meeting and working with for many years at AIG in the past. He always had a smile and something beautiful to say. Believe it or not we stayed in touch over the years and I would get a call or text on every birthday until last month he wished me happy birthday for the last time. Everytime I get a text message from Mary I dread reading it until that final one. My deepest condolences to Mary and the rest of Bob's family as you mourn this tremendous loss. Treasure the memories he left behind and always remember that he is in a happy place now smiling down on each of you. My beloved Bob even though you are gone you will not be forgotten. May your soul rest in peace - Indranie
