Robert Francis Lupien passed away peacefully on June 8, 2025, at the age of 96. His daughter, Michele Van Halanger and son, Pete Lupien were able to have final words with their dad while he was still somewhat responsive. His daughter-in-law, Linda Lupien and his grandchildren were able to speak with him or sit by him in his final days.

Bob had a wonderful life. He was born to Emile Hector Lupien and Alice Josephine Hayes on August 20, 1928 in Chicago Heights, Illinois. His older brother, Edward Joseph was born April 9, 1917 and passed away in 2006 at age 89. After Bob’s army service at the end of WWII in Japan, He returned to Boston, Mass and entered Boston College. He married his loving wife, Patricia Rosalind Lynch on August 25, 1951.They celebrated 67 years of marriage before Pat’s death on January 13, 2019. He enjoyed a long career as a marketing and finance executive for Blue Cross Blue Shield. After retirement Bob and Pat moved to Raleigh, NC. They became part of St. Raphael’s parish. They made many “lifelong” friends here. Bob enjoyed being with people. He had great golfing buddies, the Holy Hackers. He and Pat were close to their friends in the Disciples group from St. Raphaels. Bob was honored to serve as a lay minister bringing communion to parishioners unable to attend church. He often sang to those receiving communion. Weathergreen Court became another family for him. He enjoyed his neighbors so much. Especially the Friday evening Court gatherings.

Bob loved his family. He was happiest when the family could be together.

He is survived by his daughter, Michele Van Halanger and her five children: Julie Van Halanger, Danielle Van Halanger, Matthew Van Halanger (fiancée, Joy), Michael Van Halanger, Katelyn Van Halanger and his grandson, Julie’s son, Joshua Van Halanger.

His son, Peter (wife, Linda) and their two children: Stephanie Lombardo (husband, Tony) and Jonathan (wife, Micki) and grandchildren: Alice, Elizabeth and James Lombardo.

Bob’s nephew, Ed Jo Lupien and his wife Kathleen (Kat) live in Chico, CA

Two very special women made his Alzheimer’s end of life as comfortable, secure, and enjoyable as possible. Jeannine Clark and Melissa Pearce were his constant companions. We are forever grateful for their love and nurturing care. They were invaluable as resources on what Dad needed. They were champion advocates for the care Dad deserved in his assisted living situation.

A Memorial Mass will take place at St. Raphael Catholic Church, Raleigh, NC on Friday, August 8th at 10:00 a.m.
