Patsy Ruth (Leggett) Williams passed away peacefully in Raleigh, North Carolina, on the afternoon of March 19th, 2026. She was 90 years old.

Known as “Pat” throughout her long life, she was the daughter of Percy Ormond Leggett and Ruth Malpass Leggett. Born on November 14, 1935, she grew up in Scotland Neck, North Carolina with her sisters Margaret and Anne.

After attending East Carolina College, in 1957 Pat married Charles Stuart Williams, an Air Force Officer, and she traveled the world with her family as a military spouse. Throughout their time in the Air Force, they lived in 13 different places over 22 years, including Florida, Texas (three times), Kansas, North Carolina, the Philippines, Maryland, Alabama, Missouri, and England. During those years, she became the loving mother of three children: Meredith, Jeff, and Jon, and worked diligently to help them adjust to a multitude of Air Force moves, including a difficult year of family separation as Charles supported the war effort in the early 1970s. During those assignments, Pat served as an active volunteer for many base organizations, including the Red Cross, the Officer’s Wives’ clubs, and base hospital communities.

After Charles retired from the Air Force, Charles and Pat established their permanent home in Goldsboro, NC, where she quickly became an engaged member of the Goldsboro community. As a Century 21 Realtor, she helped other Air Force families find wonderful homes while making many friends and cementing her roots in Goldsboro. She was an engaged President of the New Neighbors and Garden clubs, an active leader in neighborhood homeowner’s associations, and an involved participant at both St Paul Methodist and First Presbyterian church congregations.

Pat will be remembered as a person with utmost attention to detail and high standards for her home, garden, and for the neighborhoods where she lived and was an active member of the homeowner's associations. She loved her children and grandchildren, and she maintained deep affection for her family and the friends she became close with over a lifetime.

Pat was predeceased by her husband, Charles Stuart Williams. She is survived by her sisters, Margaret Stephenson and Anne Burnette, her children Jeff Williams, Meredith (James) Jinnette and Jon (Rose) Williams, and grandchildren, Hannah, Stuart, Jocelyn, Jonathan, and Eloise. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Pat was supported with excellence late in her long life by two wonderful care teams at Brighton Gardens of Raleigh, and at Swift Creek at the Templeton of Cary, and her family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to all those selfless helpers for all the careful attention and support “Mrs. Patsy” received while there. Her care teams remain very special to her family.

A celebration of Pat’s life will be held on Friday, 10 April at 1pm at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church, 2209 Fairview Road, Raleigh NC, 27608 in the small chapel. Visitors are encouraged to park in the small lot across the street from the Sanctuary on the corner of Stone St. & Fairview Rd. A graveside service will be planned at Arlington National Cemetery.
