Our beloved Martha White Whitfield, a cherished sister, aunt, and friend, was born on September 29, 1926, in Kinston, North Carolina. On Sunday, November 2, 2025, Martha peacefully departed this life.

Martha received her education in the Lenoir County School System, graduating from Adkin High School. She went on to pursue her passion for caring for others by attending Nursing School in Winston-Salem, where she began a remarkable career in nursing that spanned 51 years before her well-earned retirement.

Martha was a woman of grace, compassion, and quiet strength. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures - reading, completing word searches, sewing, and knitting – activities that reflected her patience and gentle spirit.

In 2005, Martha relocated to Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, and later moved to Brookdale North Assisted Living in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 2011, where she continued to share her warmth and kindness with everyone she met.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Christine Boone-White and Rudolph White. And her siblings James, Raymond, Edward “Phil”, Ralph, Ada Pearl, Helen, Rubye, and her niece Rebecca “Becky”.

She leaves to cherish her memory her sister Hattye Mitchell (Linden, NJ), special nephew Sam White (Ina White), special niece Francine Williams, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who cherished her deeply.

Though she has departed from our sight, her love, laughter, and faith remain forever in the hearts of those she touched. Martha’s life was a testament to her devotion to family, her service to others, and her unwavering trust in God. Her legacy of compassion and strength will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.

Her memory will be lovingly treasured by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of sharing in her journey.

A Homegoing Celebration honoring the life of Martha White Whitfield will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at 11:00am at Renaissance Funeral Home in Raleigh. Interment will follow at Crestview Memorial Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude for all expressions of love, prayers, and support during this time.
