In Loving Memory of Lucita Leyson Anzale

Lucita "Lucy" Leyson Anzale, 84, passed away peacefully at home on May 1, 2026, after suffering cardiac arrest. Born in the Philippines on December 16, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Antonio Leyson and Lucia Catane-Leyson.

Lucy was a dedicated high school teacher who served both in the private sector at Saint Vincent Ferrer Academy in Babatngon, Leyte, and in the public sector at Toledo High School in Sison, Surigao del Norte, Philippines. After retiring, she traveled to Raleigh, NC, to live with and be close to her youngest daughter.

A widow at the young age of 29, Lucy raised her three daughters on her own, instilling in them a deep sense of resilience, strength, and love.

She is survived by her loving family: Daughters: Amuerfina Ariola, Bernadetta (with husband Joseph Christian Tejada), and Carmela Evans (with husband Isaac P. Evans). Grandchildren: Josephine Kate and husband Ricardo, Joyce, Jo, Ken, Jaffa, Jedidiah, and Samuel (Raleigh). Great-grandchildren: France Cyrus, Vhon Yuri, Vhon Gabriel, and Vhon Caleb.

The family expresses their profound gratitude to the entire De La Cruz family for welcoming "Nanay" Lucy into their home and treating her as part of their family throughout her years of stay in Raleigh including friends and the Evans family, who treated her as their own Nanay. Special thank you to Mommy Baty, Nanay Linda for spending precious time with her. Also, special thank you Tia Annie Macawili and Tia Letlet for constantly communicating with her.

There will be a private family gathering at Renaissance Funeral Home and a public Funeral Mass/Liturgy will be held at a later time. Please check back for details.

In lieu of flowers, cash donations can be made in memory of Lucita Anzale to Saint Raphael Parish in Raleigh, NC, where she volunteered as an assistant Catechist for Faith Formation:

Nanay Lucy, I'll miss your smile and your warm hugs every time we saw each other. It breaks my heart that you're no longer with us. Going home and seeing Ate Carmela without you there just won't feel the same. Your passing has left all of us heartbroken, but we find comfort knowing you are now in a better place and in God's loving hands. Rest in peace, Nanay Lucy. You will always be loved and deeply missed. Love, Christian, Aprille, Bella, & Gianni
