Katherine Bronwen Smith, 91, of Raleigh, NC, went to meet the Lord on July 18, 2026. She was born in England on February 28, 1935, the only child of Les and Hilda Smith.

Katherine worked twenty years for First Citizens Bank and made many friends there. Her co-workers will surely remember the extravagant costumes she made every year for Halloween. She won the company costume contest many times!

She was a gifted writer and had many short stories and poems published in “Lookout Magazine” out of Beaufort, NC. Her proudest accomplishment was her book “THE GASTROPOD DOES NOT WEAR SOCKS” which was published in 2012.

Katherine was also a great lover of the opera, ballet, and theatre. She was a talented actress, performing in theatre groups in Canada and New Jersey.

The place she loved the most was the beach. She took yearly trips to Atlantic Beach with her family, Michele Warner and Heather Grimshaw. She loved collecting shells and enjoyed simply watching the ocean.
Katherine was the kindest, most loving, and compassionate person. Everyone who knew her, from close friends to acquaintances acquired in daily life speaks of her sweet personality and non-judgmental nature.

Katherine is survived by two cousins: Heather Grimshaw (Robert) and her children in New Jersey and Lynne Sanders and her children in England, as well as many friends who have loved and supported her.

The family would like to offer special gratitude to Wanda and Robert Gravitt for their 40+ years of friendship and for loving Katherine like a sister.

A viewing/visitation will be held on Friday, July 24th at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church (2718 Overbrook Drive, Raleigh, NC 27608) beginning at 11:00 a.m. with the funeral Mass at 12:00 p.m. Burial services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Raleigh Memorial Park (7501 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC 27612).
