Surrounded by her loving family Juanita Lee Hogg Sherrill departed this earth for her heavenly home on November 26, 2025.

Juanita was born December 6, 1928, in Glen Ferris, West Virginia. Family members knew Juanita best by her nickname ‘Toots’. She helped her father raise four younger siblings after losing her mother at the age of twelve.

Juanita received her bachelor's degree in education from Concord College in Princeton, West Virginia. It was there she met her beloved husband William Joseph Sherrill (Joe). She received her Master’s Degree in Education from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina.

Juanita began her teaching career in West Virginia before moving to Bryson City, North Carolina. She continued teaching in the Swain County School System and also worked with the Teacher Corp mentoring young educators. After moving to Raleigh, North Carolina she taught at Hawley Middle School in Granville County. As a school teacher she was a role model. Over her thirty-four-year career her kindness, encouragement and support shaped the lives of several generations of young people.

A woman of great faith, Juanita devoted her life to serving others. She was active in church as a Sunday School Teacher and choir member. She was always there with a listening ear, encouragement and support for her family and friends.

After retirement, Juanita and Joe enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. They were privileged to visit many beautiful sites, both domestically and abroad. Juanita’s favorite adventures always drew her back to the Great Smoky Mountains and the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Juanita was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-seven years, William Joseph Sherrill, her parents Coy and Hazel Hogg, her step-mother Vergie Hogg, her granddaughter Hannah Morgan Keller, her brother Leonard Hogg and wife Ginny, her sister-in-law Marie Cagle and husband Bill, brothers-in-law Charles Mazo, James Hunt, Jim Sherrill and Harold Sherrill, nieces Denise Dillon, Sandy Buggeln and Karen Sherrill and nephew Russ Cagle.

Juanita is survived by her two daughters Elaine Sherrill Wathen and Connie Sherrill Morgan both of Raleigh, North Carolina; three grandchildren Lori Thompson and husband Kelly of Wilson, North Carolina, Cheryl Bunn and husband Jerry of Sims, North Carolina, and Jeremy Morgan of Raleigh, North Carolina; grandson-in-law Joel Keller of Raleigh, North Carolina; eight great-grandchildren, Angel Fraser and husband Alex, Dylan Thompson, Cooper Thompson, Tyler Bunn, Bryson Bunn, Cassie Bunn, Austin Keller and Barbara Ann Keller; three siblings, Barbara Mazo of Port Richey, Florida, Ed Hogg of Lake City, Florida, Marth Hunt of Wesley Chapel, Florida; nine nieces and four nephews.

A celebration of her life will be held December 6, 2025, at Bayleaf Baptist Church, 12200 Bayleaf Church Road, Raleigh, North Carolina. Visitation will begin at 3pm with services starting at 4pm in the Chapel, followed by graveside service in the Church Cemetery.

Juanita, matriarch of the Hogg and Sherrill families was loved and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
