John Bauernschmitt, beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

John was born in Middlesex, New Jersey, on June 14, 1954, to George and Hilda Bauernschmitt. He grew up in Westfield, New Jersey, alongside his four brothers and two sisters. John attended Holy Trinity Grammar School and High School, where he became a member of the track team. It was during his high school years that he met Sue, beginning a relationship that would remain an important part of his life. They dated for seven years.

After graduation, John attended art school, where he developed and refined his natural artistic talents. He later met Liane Kenney, who would become his wife, Liane Bauernschmitt. John worked diligently at Union County Mailing in Westfield, New Jersey, where he made many lasting friendships, some of which he maintained throughout his life.

John and Liane eventually relocated to Apalachin, New York, with their young son, Evan. John worked for Creative Printing in Endicott and remained in the area for more than 20 years. He later ended his working career retiring from the Vestal School System, where he found great satisfaction in his custodial work at the grammar school.

In 2019, John and Sue were unexpectedly reunited when Sue reached out to him. Their relationship rekindled, and they eventually began a new chapter together. John later moved to North Carolina, where he enjoyed his passion for fishing and the outdoors. John and Sue spent seven meaningful years together, supporting one another through his long battle with cancer.

John was preceded in death by his beloved sister Carol and his parents, George and Hilda.

He is survived by his brothers George and his wife, Jane; Mark and his wife, Janice; Bob and his fiancée, Rose and of course his brother Matt; along with Helena and her partner, Anna. John also leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly and always enjoyed visiting.

Most importantly, John was immensely proud of his son, Evan, and Evan’s partner, Sierra. He adored his grandchildren, Elowyn and Callum, who lovingly delighted in calling him “Grandpa Applesauce.”

John will be remembered for his artistic spirit, his love of the outdoors and fishing, his devotion to his family, and the many friendships he made throughout his life. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
