Joan Jeanette Patterson passed away at age 91 in Raleigh, NC on 12/28/25. She was born in St. Louis, MO. in 1934. She was the daughter of the late George and Emma Genda of Peoria, Il.

Joan attended Peoria County public schools and graduated from Manual High School. She also continued her education in a variety of business classes throughout her life and worked administrative positions at various Peoria banks, then later orthodontist and dental practices in Raleigh prior to retirement.

Joan was an avid reader and lifelong athlete. She would read just about anything she could get her hands on between outings for bowling, water skiing, camping, tennis, golf, water aerobics, walking, and tai chi. She also loved Siamese cats, and brought many into the family over the years. In addition, Joan supported multiple charities, including donating blood on a regular basis.

Joan married Roger Patterson, Sr. in Peoria, Illinois and celebrated 49 wonderful years and 4 children. Together in retirement, they enjoyed traveling all over the United States, including Alaska, and overseas.

Joan was an amazing, smart, strong woman and devoted wife and mother who was always there for her kids. She was compassionate, funny, and full of love and laughs for her friends and family.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, George and Emma Genda; sisters, Loretta Bragg and Gerrie Lindsley; and brother, George Genda, Jr. of Peoria, Il. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roger Patterson, Sr. and son, Ryan Patterson of Raleigh, NC.

She is survived by sons, Roger Patterson, Jr., Jeffrey Patterson; daughter, Valerie Patterson, and cat, Ozzie of Raleigh, NC. Also, a sister and brother-in-law, many nieces, nephews, and friends.

An informal memorial service will be held from 2-4 pm on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at Renaissance Funeral Home, 7615 Six Forks Rd., Raleigh, NC, 27615. Family and friends are welcome.
