  I had the honor of being one of Jan's caregivers. She was the sweetest person, with the best sense of humor. When I went to work, it was more like spending time with family. Jan, John and I would have the best time. I will always cherish the memories we shared.

  Marissa

  Daniel (Jan's son) was one of the first kids I made friends with when my family moved to Raleigh. We were neighbors and spent a lot of time at each other's homes as kids. I always felt comfortable and at home at the King's. Daniel and I drifted apart as we grew up but anytime my path has crossed with this family it has always felt like we could pick up right where we left off. I remember all the foster kittens Jan cared for over the years. Saw one or two of them for veterinary care. And I remember seeing her next door to my office when one of the local veterinary offices took up temporary residence in the suite next to ours. She really had a love for these homeless kittens. I know this family is grieving a wife and mother who loved deeply and was deeply loved. I pray God will give them peace.

  My sincere condolences to the family. I commuted to work with her for about a year before she retired, and I'll always remember how she would instinctively extend her arm in front of me when braking—a small gesture that showed how caring she was. I truly enjoyed our rides and conversations during those commutes.
