Janice Brown Hollomon
Janice Hollomon (née Ella Janice Brown) was born in Oak City, NC, to Cecil and Zula Howell Brown. She grew up on the family farm alongside her older brother, Cecil, Jr. “Bud,” and big sister, Cynthia “Cyn.” As a teen, she enjoyed playing basketball, singing, and being active in her church. Janice graduated as the valedictorian of her class at Oak City High School and attended Chowan College in Murfreesboro, NC. She moved to Raleigh as a young woman, where she met and married the love of her life, George. As a young couple, George and Janice lived in San Diego, CA, and Charleston, SC, while George was on active duty with the US Navy. They eventually returned to Raleigh to raise their family.
Janice had a way with numbers, enjoying her work in the mortgage industry and the accounting aspect of building and running two businesses with George - TypEsthetics, and then Oak City Image. Janice’s greatest joy, however, was being a mother and grandmother. She loved watching Kathy and Roger grow up and thrive, always their biggest cheerleader and ever-present at their activities and milestones. But the title Janice cherished most was 'Grandma,' and she found endless delight in every moment spent with her grandchildren.
Janice was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Leigh Hollomon, along with her parents and siblings. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, George, her daughter, Kathy Livengood (Andrew), son, Roger (Melissa), and her four grandchildren, Leighton and Mason Livengood, and Vivienne and Beatrice Hollomon.
Later in life, Janice was thankful to connect with her birth daughter, Linda Briley (Rob). Through this, she gained a bonus family in granddaughter Erin Adler (Jake) and grandson Matt Briley (Claire), as well as five great-grandchildren: Rylan and Evan Adler, and Maeve, Blake, and Merritt Briley.
A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 4:00 pm at Renaissance Funeral Home at 7615 Six Forks Road. Visitation with the family will be prior to the service at 3:00 pm. The Reverend Justin Gabbard of The Church of the Good Shepherd will officiate the service. Janice’s ashes will be interred at a later date next to her daughter, Karen, in Murfreesboro, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Janice’s honor to Blood Cancer United.
