Jane Chappell Goodwin

Jane Chappell Goodwin, 80, of Raleigh, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2026.

Born on August 16, 1945, in Raleigh, Jane was the daughter of the late Theodore and Clara Chappell. A lifelong Raleigh resident, she attended Peace College for one year and North Carolina State University for one year before beginning her career as an accounting clerk with the State of North Carolina. Following her retirement, she continued to stay active by working part-time for a friend's landscaping business, where she assisted with marketing and administrative responsibilities.

Jane was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, Gerald “Jerry” Goodwin. Together they shared a lifetime of love, friendship, and adventure.

She is survived by her brother, Ted Chappell and his wife, Gail; her sister-in-law, Kathy Falco and her husband, Bob; and many cherished friends whose lives were enriched by her kindness and companionship.

A longtime member of Milner Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh, Jane remained devoted to her faith community throughout her life. Following the closure of Milner Memorial, she attended Trinity Presbyterian Church.

Jane will be remembered for her overwhelming generosity, wry sense of humor, and unwavering loyalty to her family and friends.

She had a passion for travel and enjoyed exploring the country and the world with Jerry and their dear friends, Bill and Jenny Billings. Jane and Jerry were also devoted baseball fans who traveled extensively to attend both regular-season and spring training games whenever possible. Many of these adventures were shared with Jerry’s sister, Kathy, her husband, Bob, and their friend, Donna Tetrault.

Jane also loved the excitement of gambling, especially trips to Atlantic City. Blackjack was her favorite game, and she was known for her skill at the table, often returning home with more than she arrived with. She was an enthusiastic Elvis fan and took great joy in listening to his music, never missing an opportunity to celebrate the King of Rock and Roll.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 12:00 noon at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wake County SPCA in Jane’s memory.
