James Edward Morgan
James Edward Morgan, 93, of Raleigh, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026.
Born July 6,1932 in Badin, North Carolina, James was the son of James L. and Lugenia E. Morgan. He grew up during the Great Depression, helping his parents run their small grocery store and learning the values of hard work, generosity, and service to others.
James proudly served his country during the Korean War and was stationed in the Army Security Agency 8611 unit in Baumholder, Germany, where he worked in signal intelligence, supporting military operations through the analysis of communications. He often spoke of his military years as some of the happiest of his life, filled with friendship and travel.
After his service, he attended Pfeiffer College and earned a degree in business. He worked in accounting and later as an auditor for the North Carolina Department of Revenue in Raleigh, where he met his beloved wife, Kathryn. They married in 1970 and built a life together in Raleigh, raising their children, Lisa and Garrett.
James loved his family deeply and enjoyed traveling, especially to the beach and to Florida. He had a lifelong interest in American history and the stock market, becoming a knowledgeable and enthusiastic investor.
He was known for his generous heart, his forgiving nature, and his ability to see the good in others.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Logan (Dean); his son, Garrett Morgan; his grandchildren, Dean and Kathryn Logan; brother William “Billy” Morgan, and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at Renaissance Funeral Home on Six Forks Road in Raleigh on Friday, April 10, 2026 at 2 p.m. Visitation will be an hour earlier at 1 p.m.
James Morgan lived a life marked by faith, kindness, and service. We take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, resting in the presence of the Lord, reunited with those who have gone before him, and hearing the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
