James Madison Barton was born in Forest Hill, LA on February 21, 1930 to Stella and Artie Barton.

He spent his childhood in Melder, LA. Jim started his college career in Louisiana but left to serve his country. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War mostly on the USS Bremerton. After his honorable discharge he started his career with Western Electric. Jim worked his way up through the company until his retirement in the early 1990's from Bellcore as a Quality Assurance Manager.

After his retirement he turned to what would be his true calling, volunteering. He worked with Catholic Parish Outreach and helped to build the ministry and made many friends. Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Judy.

He leaves behind his children Lucienne Gold, Joel Barton, Byron Barton, Jeanne Guilliams and Ed Barton as well as 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Jim was passionate about his grandchildren, his faith and English football. He will be deeply missed but we rest easy in the knowledge that he is back with Judy and they are watching over us all.

Funeral services will be Thursday July 2nd, 2026 at 11am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Raleigh, NC
