James H. Findlay Jr.

James H. Findlay Jr., age 74, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 20, 2026.

Born on February 13, 1952, in Gastonia, North Carolina, Jim was the son of Frances Withers Findlay and James H. Findlay Sr. He graduated from Hunter Huss High School and went on to attend Pfeiffer University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business in 1974.

Following college, he began a long and dedicated career with Bowers Fibers in Charlotte, North Carolina. He remained with the company for over 40 years—a reflection of his strong work ethic, loyalty, and commitment. During that time, he built not only a respected career, but also lasting relationships with colleagues and clients, many of whom became lifelong friends.

Jim had a deep appreciation for the simple joys in life. He was an avid fan of the Carolina Panthers and rarely missed a chance to tailgate with friends and cheer them on. He loved cooking, especially North Carolina-style barbecue, and enjoyed experimenting with new recipes.

Jim also cherished time spent at his mountain property in Creston, North Carolina, where he could relax and take in the beautiful view of Three Top Mountain from the front porch—a place that brought him great peace.

While he always had a love for travel, he had the opportunity in later years to take several meaningful trips with family and friends including to Scotland—lands connected to his heritage—Ireland, Alaska, and Niagara Falls.

In 2025, Jim moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, to be closer to his daughter and son-in-law.

He is survived by his daughter, Sarah Findlay Drushal, and her husband, Jon Dillon Drushal; his sisters, Susan Peoples, Lane Findlay, and Grace Borders; as well as two nieces and one nephew.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 31st at 11:00 AM, followed by a reception, at Renaissance Funeral Home, 7615 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27615, where family and friends will gather to honor Jim’s life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jim’s honor to StoneRidge Gracious Retirement Living in Cary, NC.

Jim was a good neighbor and friend. He would organize neighborhood get togethers and would stay up all night smoking Boston butts for us! Jim would always have "beggin' strips" for my dog when we walked by his home. Jim was one of those connecting people who had a smile and a kind word for all. Sarah - you are an amazing and loving daughter - Jim was so proud of you! I'm so sorry for the loss of your father.

Hey Sarah. Did you know your dad had a pet raccoon after he graduated from Pfeiffer? We visited him on several occasions and played with the raccoon. At one point it bit me on the ear! I didn't pet it after that! 😂
