Jackson Berchell "Jack" Lemons, Jr., 88, of Raleigh, passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2025 at Rex Hospital.


Jack was born on August 5, 1937, in Charleston, WV, to the late Jackson Berchell Lemons, Sr. and Virginia Carol Loundree Swint. He received his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Alderson Broadus College in Berea, WV and worked for Union Carbide. After perceiving a call to ministry the family moved to Wake Forest, NC where he completed a Masters degree in Theology from Southeastern Theological Seminary. Following this they lived for two years in Exeter, England where he pursued a PhD in Old Testament Theology. Sadly he was not able to compete his thesis. Upon return to the United States, Jack worked in the division of Prisons in the Pre-release and Aftercare program. He continued to work in NC state Government for the next several decades. His proudest achievement was development and leadership of the Public Manager Program. He has also been an active member of Pullen Memorial Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Lemons.

Jack is survived by his wife, Barbara Jean Lemons; daughter Rene Gouverneur; son David Lemons; step-son David Joyner; and grandchildren Rachel Matney, Paul Matney, Alexandria Joyner, and Sophia Joyner.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 11am, at Pullen Memorial Baptist Church, 1801 Hillsborough St, Raleigh, NC 27605. There will be a reception following the service.
