Gertrude “Bing” Auen

Gertrude “Bing” Auen, age 84, Clayton, North Carolina, passed away on January 8th, 2026, at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield NC.

Born on October 22nd, 1941 in Pittsburgh PA, Bing was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who touched the hearts of everyone she met. Throughout her life, she dedicated much of her time to others, volunteering with her church and offering a kind and helping hand whenever needed. She found joy in the little things, including her love for cross-stitching in her younger years and, later, creating beautiful scrapbooks for her grandchildren, capturing their milestones as they grew from babies into adults.

Known for her warmth, Bing had a natural gift for bringing people together. She loved hosting family gatherings and parties, where her infectious laughter and kindness could be felt in every room. Her famous pumpkin pie was a favorite and will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of tasting it.

Bing is preceded in death by her father, William Anthony Killmeyer, her mother Gertrude Agnes Wolf, her brother William Joseph Killmeyer, and her husband William Joseph Auen.

She is survived by her sister Dorothy Ann Broskey, her four children: Paul Joseph Auen, Patricia Jean Settle, David John Auen, Michael Edward Auen, and their families, along with numerous friends and loved ones whose lives were made brighter by her presence.

If ordering flowers, please have them sent directly to the church. Thank you for your kindness during this time of grief.

This is sent with our deepest sympathy and love Aunt Bing was always an inspiration with her wit, humor and extended love. She was just plain fun to be around. I remember a trip to New York in the far past, just spending the best of times on vacation. Her hospitality was second to none. Our prayers are with you during this difficult time.
