Francis John Taillefer

Francis John Taillefer passed away on December 25, 2025, at the age of 80. Born to Esther and Michael Taillefer Sr; Fran grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota – Carlson School of Management and earned his master’s degree from Georgia State University. Captain Taillefer served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He then went on to work at the Pentagon, where he met the love of his life, Betty Jo Minton (Taillefer). Fran went on to have a successful career as the Information Techology Administrator of North Carolina State Courts.

Over the years, Fran enjoyed traveling with friends and family, playing tennis, walking, reading, and time with his grandchildren. His favorite times of the year were summers in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina and springs at his brother’s cabins in northern Minnesota. The memories made during those trips will live on in our hearts.

Fran / Dad / GrandFran touched so many people throughout his life through his genuine kindness, generosity, and guidance. He was the most loving Husband, Father, GrandFran, Brother, Uncle and Friend. He was the quiet, trusted, confidant and advisor to family and friends. He held a very special place in his heart for what he called his ‘Inner Circle.’ His impact will continue with us every day in our hearts.

He is survived by his daughters – Ashley Mahan (Preston) and Amanda Meloni (Joe), His three grandchildren whom he had a special bond with each one – Madelyn Mahan, Samantha and Brandon Meloni. His brothers – Michael Taillefer Jr. (Helen), Patrick Taillefer, and Thomas Taillefer.

He is preceded by his mother and father – Esther and Michael Taillefer Sr. Wife - Betty Jo Minton Taillefer, his sweet “BJ” whom he always carried in his heart. His brother and sisters – Sharon Olson (Taillefer), Rosemary Mengelkoch (Taillefer), and Homer Taillefer.

Fran’s travels are too long to list, but important to note was his love and curiosity for the National Parks. Over his life, he visited 24 parks across 12 states. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for any donations to the National Parks Conservation Association.
