Dr. Bruce Harold Janson
Dr. Bruce Harold Janson, 74, of Raleigh, passed away peacefully at home to eternal life on Saturday, September 13, 2025.
Bruce was a wonderful and beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He deeply loved his family and was a strong Christian, outstanding and well-respected anesthesiologist, and an avid golfer. Bruce enjoyed travel, especially to Scotland, and was a lifelong runner and marathoner. He will be remembered for his calm demeanor, wisdom, sense of humor, and generosity.
Bruce was born on June 24, 1951 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the late Harold and Grace. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Susan Elizabeth Janson; sons Brian Michael Janson (Lynn) and Steven Robert Janson; daughter Lauren Elizabeth McIlwaine (Peter); four grandsons, Robert Floyd Janson, Taylor Michael Janson, Calum Peter McIlwaine, and Rory Harold McIlwaine; sister Barbara Baemmert (Joseph); brother-in-law Les Schaefer (Sarah); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 10:30am at North Raleigh United Methodist Church, 8501 Honeycutt Rd, Raleigh, NC 27615.

I knew Dr Janson from my time of employment in the O.R. at WakeMed, in Cary. Dr Janson was always a calming presence in the Operating Room during intubation. I know of many of our CRNA's found that trait of his to be especially very helpful during tough intubations. It was such a very sad time for the staff & Dr Jansons colleagues to learn of Dr Janson received his terminal diagnosis. Knowing how it is to receive that diagnosis, he & his family were very fortunate that he was well cared for & gifting him to live for many more years than most. I know Dr Janson was ever so grateful to of had the best of care & a wonderful family that supported each other. My family got the shocking news when our beloved sister received the same diagnoses in April of 2024 & unfortunately, we lost her early in March of 2025. Dr Janson will be missed by all that loved & respected him. He was one of the good ones & I pray that he rests in peace forever. In sympathy, JoAnne Woll S.T. Retired from WakeMed Cary O.R.
