Donald Arthur Andrews, age 92, died on June 8, 2025, at Carolina Meadows in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Born on September 5, 1932, in Queens, New York, Donald was the son of Rexford Wellington Andrews and Marion Gould Andrews. A man of steady faith, quiet strength, and deep curiosity, he lived a life shaped by service—to his country, his family, and his church.

Donald began his education at Marion Institute in Alabama before earning his Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point. He went on to receive a Master’s degree from UCLA and later completed his Masters of Science in Administration at Troy State University.

His military career spanned 30 years as a commissioned officer in the United States Army. He earned both the parachutist badge at Fort Benning and the aircraft crewman badge, served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969—where he was awarded two Bronze Stars and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm—and held a range of distinguished assignments. These included serving as an associate professor at West Point, battalion commander at Fort Bragg, and work in the Pentagon in the Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence. He was a graduate of the United States Army War College and later served as a Professor of Military Science in Wisconsin and Chief of Staff for the First ROTC Region.

After retiring, Donald never stopped being a student of the world. He had a lifelong love of history and genealogy and was an enthusiastic golfer. His Catholic faith remained at the center of his life. He was a passionate Roman Catholic and a founding member of St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church in Raleigh, where he worshiped and served faithfully for many years.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Eileen Andrews. He is survived by his son, David Scott Andrews, and his wife, Monica; his granddaughter, Megan Adele Scillitoe, and her husband, Ashley; his great-granddaughter, Maeve Alice Scillitoe and brother-in-law Gerald Smith, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A Funeral will be held at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, on October 16, 2025 at 1:30pm.
