Dianne Wallace Hummel

Dianne Wallace Hummel, of Raleigh, North Carolina, died peacefully on December 28, 2025 at 87 years old after an exhaustive battle with cancer. She was blessed to have been surrounded by all three of her daughters at the time of her passing.

Dianne was born on October 3, 1938 in Saginaw, Michigan, to Robert B. Wallace and Marguerite (Hunter) Wallace. She was predeceased by her older brothers, Robert Wallace (Sanford, MI) and William Wallace (Midland, MI), and survived by her younger sister, Kathleen (Wallace) Andrus (Saginaw, MI).

Dianne attended Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw, MI where she met the love of her life, Dick Hummel Jr. They married in 1958 and were fortunate to have shared 61 years of a full and active life together before Dick’s passing in 2019. Their marriage was one of deep devotion, partnership, and joy. They shared many passions, including playing Bridge, golfing, bowling, and traveling extensively - always eager to explore new places and enjoy time with their friends and family.

After many wonderful years raising a family in Saginaw, Dick’s career moved them to Pennsylvania in 1975 where they lived for 10 years, first in Mt. Joy and then Wellsboro. In 1985, Dick and Dianne relocated to Raleigh, NC. Dianne was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and proud great-grandmother. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-laws, Deidri and Kjell Ottesen (Raleigh, NC), Dalene and Mitch Johnson (Roswell, GA), Doreen and Steve Zanella (Raleigh, NC), eight grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren, all of whom were the great joys of her life. She will be missed immensely by all.

Dianne will be remembered for her warmth, her faith, her elegance, her generous spirit, and her unwavering dedication to her family.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Asbury Church (6612 Creedmoor Road, Raleigh, NC 27613).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to one of her favorite charities: Tunnel2Towers or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital , or to Asbury Church.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die…” (John 11:25-26)

To Deidri, Dalene, Doreen and all your families. I send my deepest sympathy on the loss of your Mom. Dianne was wonderful and a friend to Gary and me for most of our adult lives, starting years ago as backyard neighbors in Saginaw. I remember the Kaffeeklatsches we had in the neighborhood. It was usually Dianne, Sue, Sonya and me and we solved many world problems. Your Dad and Mom and Gary and I visited each other no matter where we were living. Over nearly sixty years we built memories which I cherish, too many to list. In particular we made it a point to be together on Valentine's Day for several years. Dianne was always just a phone call away. I loved her and will miss her very much. I pray for my dear friend: Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and may Your perpetual Light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Love Marilyn Bauknecht
