Dale Sherman Miller, 82, of Raleigh, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2025.

Dale was born on June 9, 1943, in Wooster, Ohio, to the late Donald Miller and Nona Miller.

He began his career designing circuit boards for Diebold. After moving to Miami, he designed circuit boards for Comco, where he met his wife of nearly 50 years. He later designed circuit boards for blood centrifuge machines at Baxter before transitioning into the IT profession in Research Triangle Park in 1997, eventually retiring from NetApp. Throughout his career, he consistently prioritized family over professional advancement which required extensive travel.

He was an avid gardener, golfer, and home-improvement enthusiast. He built a playhouse for his children so sturdy that it withstood Category 5 Hurricane Andrew and can still be seen in Zillow photos today. He also built a Barbie house that has been passed down for the next generation to enjoy. He enthusiastically supported his children’s interests, even when they were complex—such as building saltwater aquariums—or required extensive travel, including countless trips across South Florida for dance competitions. In every audience, he made himself known by the unmistakable sound of his loud whistle.

He had a steady sense of humor and was known for his many memorable sayings, including his favorite remark after Sunday dinners: “Glad you got to see me today.”

Dale is survived by his wife, Sharon Miller; his children Douglas and daughter-in-law Manda (Edwards) Miller, Nicole Miller, and Denise Miller; and grandchildren Levi and Darci Miller.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 1pm, at Renaissance Funeral Home, 7615 Six Forks Rd, Raleigh, NC 27615. The family will receive friends following the service.
