Col. Mark Wentlent

Col. Mark Wentlent, 76 of Raleigh, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at his home surrounded by family

Mark was born on August 1, 1949, in Buffalo, New York, to the late Alfred Wentlent and Ann Hubbard Wentlent. He was commissioned in the US Army in 1972 after graduation from college. He proudly served his country for 30 years, 4 months and 3 days. He was part of the first ground forces into Afghanistan after 9-11.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Annie and his brother, Alfred.

Mark is survived by Jane Wentlent, his loving wife of 53 years. He is also survived by his children, Rebecca L Wentlent of Raleigh, Joel B Wentlent and his wife Jessie of Maryland, and Matthew J Wentlent and his wife Jami of Atlanta; and his beloved grandson, James Henry Wentlent of Maryland, who has brought tremendous joy to his life. He also leaves behind brothers Blane and Christopher Wentlent and a sister, Linda Wentlent, as well as many loved nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be planned in the coming weeks, details to be announced. Mark will be buried with full honors at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.

Any memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, specifically for Pancreatic Cancer.

    Very sorry to see this. I was in the army and drove a Jeep for Mary. He was the platoon lieutenant for our weapons platoon. This was back in 1973 to 1975. He was our best leader we had. May he rest in beloved peace.
