Charles Francis New, III was born on February 4, 1943, in the Bronx, New York to the late Charles Francis New, Jr and Josephine Veronica Corrigan.

He graduated from Cardinal Hayles High School and worked for MaBSTOA (Manhattan and Bronx Surface Transit Operating Authority) for 34 years as a bus mechanic.

Charlie played the bagpipes for many years and this is where he met his loving wife of 29 years, Donalda Marie New (Dee). Amazing Grace was his favorite hymn whether hearing it or playing it. He also loved Irish music and painting with acrylic paints. He was a friend of Bill W for over 52 years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Charlie was also considered a wonderful cheerleader and protector for their local swimming group.

Having lived in New Jersey for a time and New York, Charlie and Dee settled in Archer Lodge, NC around 20 years ago. Charlie was known to be a kind and gentle man and will be missed by those who knew him.

He was survived by his wife and also by his children Geri Newfry, Karen Ezzo, Bernadette New, Charles New IV; and grandchildren Tyler, Melanie, Angelo, and Justin.

A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, October 28th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Eugene Catholic Church in Wendell, NC. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
