Catherine White Couch
Catherine “Cathy” White Couch, born July 14, 1960, passed away surrounded by her husband and children on November 19, 2025.
Raised in Bassett, Virginia, Cathy moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, in 1980 to attend Meredith College. After graduating, she made Raleigh her home, where she met the love of her life, Frank. The two married in 1990 and built a beautiful life together filled with laughter and adventure.
Cathy was a devoted mother to Mary and Kevin and found immense joy in her role as “Oma” to her cherished grandchildren, Annie and Henry. Her brightest smiles were always reserved for moments spent with her grandbabies.
Always active and endlessly energetic, Cathy loved playing tennis or pickleball and treasured the friendships she formed on the courts. An avid reader, she was a member of two book clubs, where she found joy in good books and even better friends. Some of her dearest memories were made over the years with her beloved “Bunco Babes.” She was an avid traveler, journeying across the country and the world with Frank. Together they visited 27 national parks, with Cathy holding onto the dream of seeing them all.
Cathy is preceded in death by her father, Eugene White, and her brother, Graham White. She is survived by her mother, Merle; her sister, Nancy; her husband, Frank; her children, Mary (Jack) and Kevin (Cori); her grandchildren, Henry and Annie, and her expected granddaughter due in March.
Her family is especially grateful for the extraordinary gift of her bone marrow transplant donor, Mona, whose generosity allowed Cathy to recover from AML in 2019. That gift granted her precious years in which she witnessed her children’s weddings and embraced her beloved grandbabies—memories her family will forever treasure.
Cathy’s life was defined by courage, kindness, and an unwavering love for those she held dear. Her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her.
Cathy’s celebration of life will be held at First Cary United Methodist Church with a reception to follow.

Frank, I just learned of Cathy's passing. I didn't know Cathy, but I knew you and Cathy were great together from all the stories I have heard. Our condolences to you and the family.

I am so shocked and saddened to hear of Cathy's passing! I only have the fondest of memories for the White children, for whom I babysat many times when they were small. Merle, Nancy and the rest of the family are in my thoughts and prayers during this unthinkable time of grief!

Dear Couch Family, So sorry to hear of Cathy's passing. We were tennis buddies and good friends for many years. I first met her at Highland Methodist church before we started playing tennis. It was so nice when we connected at Seven Oaks tennis. We enjoyed several seasons as doubles partners. I have posted some photos of fun times on and off the courts. She loved her family and I am so happy that she got to see her children have children. The last time I saw her, she was excited to tell me that there's another grandchild on the way. I am so sad that she's gone and I will certainly miss her. My life is richer and fuller from having Cathy as a friend. My heartfelt condolences to you all.
