Annie Ruth Tew passed away on June 15, 2025, after a short-term illness, at the age of 87. She was born on a farm in Sampson County on July 18th, 1937.

She attended Plain View School from 1st through 12th grade, and graduated in the class of 1955.

She married Mack Reid Tew, her high school sweetheart, on July 8th, 1956. They were married for 31 years and had four sons before Mack passed away in 1987. For the entirety of their marriage, she was a homemaker, stay-at-home mom, and an excellent Southern-style cook.

She loved her family and raised four boys. When the Tew family moved to Raleigh in 1969, they became one of the first families to join North Haven Chapel, and helped build the church at its present location. She later became secretary for North Haven Church, and attended Hardbarger Junior College just to brush up on her typing skills. Two years later she graduated with an Associate’s degree at the top of her class when she was in her late forties. She took a job as manager of the Dean of Students Office at Meredith College and worked there for 10 years. She then became an administrative assistant at Trinity Baptist Church for another 8 years.

She was retired and living in Wakefield at the time of her passing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Tew, her parents, J.C. and Euphemia Jernigan, two sisters, Edna Godwin and Dorothalee Beasley, and one brother, J.C. Jernigan Jr.

She is survived by her four sons: Kelly, and his wife Darlene, Deric and his girlfriend Alyssa, Keith, and his wife Laurie, and Marty, and his wife Felicia; six grandchildren, Zachary, Chris, Justin, Kyle, Brittany, and Tyler; nine great-grandchildren, Aiden, Stetson, Lily, Barry, Ransom, Kelsey, Dylan, Claire, and Palmer (arriving soon!).
