The Executive Team of Veritas Collaborative is heart broken to hear of Joel's passing. We LOVED working with him to create our specialty hospitals in NC, and appreciated that he was always such an advocate for the work we are doing. This picture of Joel captures his personality so well. He was a winsome person. I was on the staff at Triangle Pastoral Counseling, and Joel would be present at social gatherings of the staff--as husband of Suzanne Luper who was a long-time staff member. Joel and I were both introverts, and we did not enjoy being in a large group. So he and I would find a place away from the crowd for an enjoyable conversation that would last most of the evening. I honor Joel and the way he gave me and many others a welcoming space of personal care and intimacy.

Ive enjoyed working with Joel for the many years he was at DHSR. I learned a lot from him about architectural design, Code interpretations, and much more. During our rides together for inspections, I was really fascinated with his love for music and just how much he knew about different genres of music. To talk of hs granddaughter would just light up his face. I will truly miss Joel but I am so thankful for the opportunity to have know him. I am so sorry to hear of Joels passing. He was one of the people at DHHS who was truly genuine, always willing to help, and knew more about architecture than anyone at DHHS. When I started work at DHHS, other than those in my direct group, Joel was the most helpful in getting me acclimated to the office and the work we did. When I left, he was one of the first to tell me goodbye and one of the few that said I would be missed. I will miss him and I know there are many others who will as well.

I enjoyed working with Joel as a colleague for several years. I functioned as his supervisor but always thought he already knew more about architecture than I did. Im so sorry to hear of his passing. Andy Hensley

I am really sorry to hear of Joels passing. I knew the Lupers from Carthage and Central Baptist Church - what a kind family. Joel looks happy in his picture - he was obviously blessed by his wife, children and granddaughter! My deepest sympathies and love to all his family.

I went to high school in Carthage with the Luper twins. We attended Central Baptist Church at the same time. The family are fond memories for me. They were all so bright and had such fun times building memoies together. My heart is so sad for those remaining family members. I returned to Carthage five years ago and think of them when I pass the lovely Victorian home that they lived in on North Saint Mary. May God bless you with love and comfort in this loss.
