Obituary For Jimmy Alfano

**In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Jimmy Alfano Scholarship Fund c/o North Carolina Restaurant & Lodging Association, 222 N. Person Street, Suite 210 Raleigh, NC. 27601 or The Angus Barn, 9401 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC 27617

Jimmy Alfano departed this life unexpectedly in his sleep October 8, 2016, leaving a rich legacy of family, friends and community who will treasure their memories of times together. Ended much too soon, his was a life well-lived, full of love and lasting friendships.

Jimmy was born July 23, 1955 to Theresa (née LaSorsa) Alfano and Gabriel Alfano. Raised in East Meadow, NY, Jimmy established lifelong friendships and developed his skill in the culinary arts, a talent which was further refined at the Culinary Institute of New York. Choosing Raleigh, NC as home, Jimmy became a part of the Angus Barn community, working as chef and colleague with the best in the field for almost 20 years.

A true family man, Jimmy’s definition of family encompassed so many. Devoted husband and doting father, he provided for his family’s every need while graciously including immediate, extended and chosen family in birthdays and holidays. From seemingly effortless gatherings to his gorgeous garden, Jimmy was so talented. He loved his time designing and nurturing both people and flowers; everyone and everything flourished under his care.

His other passion was sports. He was an avid follower of his girls’ soccer teams and the professional sports teams he loved since his childhood…the NY Yankees, NY Jets, NY Giants, and later the Carolina Panthers and Manchester United.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Denise, and children, Jessica (and Daniel) Thibault and Elizabeth Alfano. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law Kathy & Richard Alfano, and Joan & Philip Alfano, his sister Fran Alfano; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Terry & Matt D’Amico and Barbara Jean & Frank Fiore, nieces Stephanie (and Dan) Baker, Meg Fiore, Amanda (and Nicole) Von Glahn, Marrianna (and Drew) Bowers, nephews Matt (and Caroline) Alfano, Chris (and Kristina) Alfano, Matthew (and Kiran) D’Amico, grandnephews & grandnieces, Chloe Alfano, Henry Baker, Sam Baker, Vivian D’Amico, Hudson Von Glahn and Grayson Bowers; special friends and all of their families, who were also very dear to him. This list does not begin to cover the people touched by Jimmy. So many are devastated by his passing. As his daughter Lizz wrote “We won't ever be able to fill the void that has been left behind, but I'll always know where to look when I need my dad. He will be in the garden.”

A celebration of Jimmy’s life will be held on Friday, October 14, 2016 at St. Francis of Assisi RC Church, 11401 Leesville Road, Raleigh, NC 27613. Gathering at 10 a.m. and service at 11 a.m.

We became regulars in the wine cellar at the Angus Barn in large part because of Jimmy's kindness and dedication to his craft. He always made us feel at home, even letting my wife "help out" in the kitchen once or twice. He was never too busy to stop and say hello whenever we stopped by for a visit. Our condolences to the family, Jimmy will truly be missed.

My condolences to Jimmy and his family. I lost my mother very unexpectedly too last year, and there's no pain that compares to that. What has helped me to deal with my pain are promises in the Bible such Isaiah 33:24 and Job 14:14, 15. It's good to know that we have a chance to see our loved ones again, healthy and happy, and we won't have to die and go to heaven to do that. Please take care, the family is in my prayers.
