Obituary For Gloria Arevalo

Gloria Arevalo died in Rex Hospital on February 12, 2018 in Raleigh NC due to complications with pneumonia and liver cancer. She was 70.

Gloria was born on May 05, 1947 in Guadalajara, Mexico to her parents, Victoriano Morales and Juana Munoz. She was the last child born in a large family. She grew up in area of “Colonia del Fresno” in Guadalajara. Her first job was as a bilingual secretary. As a young adult, she was able to move to San Francisco and for several years lived near the popular dock and tourist areas. She loved that area of San Francisco. Eventually, she moved back to Mexico to go to school. She graduated from the teachers program at the U.D.G Teacher College with a degree in Junior High Education in 1986. Gloria also took classes as a medical assistant. She then taught school at the Junior High level for many years. She married a doctor, Samuel Arevalo. Gloria retired in 2001 and dedicated her remaining time to the caring of children in both Guadalajara and near Raleigh NC. Gloria was a patient and supportive teacher with a passion for literacy and the arts. She stressed education for many of her nephews and nieces and was the first in her family to achieve a post high school degree. Inspiring education and dedication in others was her life-long goal.
