Obituary For Donald Carret

Donald Carret died June 25th, 2019, in Cary, North Carolina, after a prolonged illness. Don was born on April 22nd, 1927, in Bronxville, NY. He married Anne Helen Richard on December 2nd, 1950, in Belmont, Massachusetts, and had 3 children, Donna Elisabeth, Andrea Frances, and Frederick Philip, from that union.

After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Signalman Third Class aboard the SS Columbia Victory in the Philippines, Don attended Harvard College, graduating in 1950. He worked in advertising in New York for seventeen years before leaving the industry to help his father and brother manage Carret & Co., Inc., a small but reasonably successful investment counselling firm, where he remained for the better part of thirty years. He was an avid yachtsman, joining and subsequently serving as commodore of Shattemuc Yacht Club, in Ossining, New York; cruising in the Caribbean many times, primarily in the British Virgin Islands and the Grenadines; and sailing from the Virgin Islands to Long Island Sound and back via Bermuda numerous times, with crews made up of family and close friends. He was also a member of the New York Yacht Club and the Point Senasqua Rod and Reel Club. Before moving to Cary, he resided in Scarsdale, New York; Dobbs Ferry, New York; Pleasantville, New York; New York, New York; and Tequesta, Florida.

He was preceded in death by daughter Andrea Frances Carret, of Glen Rock, New Jersey; parents Philip L. Carret and Elisabeth Osgood Carret, of Scarsdale, New York; brother Gerard O. Carret, of New York, New York; sister Diane Carret Swingle, of West Palm Beach, Florida; and former wife Anne Richard Carret, with whom he shared 27 years of marriage followed by 36 years of friendship. He is survived by former wife Pat Kloser; daughter Donna Carret, of Cary, North Carolina; son Fred Carret and daughter-in-law Mélissa Caron, of Scarsdale, New York; son-in-law Kevin Gately, of Fair Lawn, New Jersey; ten grandchildren; and twenty-four great-grandchildren.

There will be a Funeral Divine Liturgy on Saturday, June 29th, at 10am, at Saints Cyril and Methodius Byzantine Catholic Church, 2510 Piney Plains Road, Cary, North Carolina 27519. Rev. Fr. Mark Shuey will officiate. Don will be buried at Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge, Massachusetts. Details TBD.
