Obituary For Pamela Gattis

Pamela Kay Gattis of Raleigh, NC passed away on September 22nd, 2015 at the age of 68. She loved traveling with Bill, cheering on Duke Basketball, gardening, spending time with her children and spoiling her grandchildren. She worked as an educator her whole life and retired from Wake County Schools. She lived life to the fullest.

She is survived by son Max McGlohon and wife Lisa, brother Daniel Gattis and wife Valerie, stepchildren Kathryn Wade and husband Paul, Sharon Murphy and husband Harry, Susan McClure and husband Kevin, Barbara Hansen and husband Mitch, Lee Harrison and 12 grandchildren.

She is predeceased by husband William Harrison and parents Daniel and Ruth Gattis.

Our family loved Pam -- the kids still speak fondly of how much they learned in her class. "Hay, is for horses!" "Done is for turkeys, you are finished with your work." and "The fair comes in October." She was loving and firm with the students, and never passed up a teachable moment, even when the subject wasn't part of her lesson plan for the day. What a wonderful teacher and person. Melissa John

Pam was a live wire. Her smile in the profile photo says it all - she was joyful, kind, brash, and beautiful. When I first met Pam, I knew that I had met someone who would change my life. She taught me so much and was a great source of comfort and advice when I was fighting with my children or frustrated with something going on in my life. She was a true friend whom I could talk to about anything, and she would give great, no-frills, common sense advice. My sons enjoyed visiting with Pam; she always cracked them up and reminded them to behave as gentlemen. Her love of family, Duke University, wine and chocolate, her late husband, her dog Willie, LIFE, and PEOPLE will always be the composite memory that I have for her. I will continue to share the multitude of "Pam Stories" that warm my heart. I am so grateful to have known her and will carry her memory with me always. She is up in Heaven in that red dress, dancing with Bill, drinking wine, and eating chocolate. And probably mooning an Angel or two.
