Fernando Roces of Johnson Mill Road, Durham, NC passed away on August 1, 2017.

He lived a long and healthy life of 84 years, starting his childhood during the Spanish Civil War that began when he was only 4 years old. He was one of 18 siblings, three of whom survive him and continue to live in Spain. In his early 20’s, Fernando came to New York City to begin his adult life. He found work at the prestigious Winged Foot Golf Club and became the head butcher to their chef - enjoying his career for over two decades. In the 1960’s He married his wife Maureen, and once retired, moved to Durham where they designed and built their permanent home. His wife passed away in 2003.

Fernando lived a colorful life and was a self-determined man. He remained close with family, showed kindness and generosity, and had a mischievous humor. His presence will be missed by those who loved him.

A life celebration and prayer ceremony will be held on August 5th, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Renaissance Funeral Home visitation room, beginning at 11:00 am. Fernando will be buried alongside his wife at the Buffalo Jonesboro Cemetery in Sanford, NC.
