For nearly a century, the Smolenski's have been providing caring support for families in their times of need. Our spacious and serene home has been a haven to many, and over the years we've built a reputation for the quality of our services and the distinguished manner in which our funerals are conducted.

1905:
The home that later became the New Hyde Park Funeral Home is built on the corner of Lakeville Road and Lowell Avenue. The house backs up to a dirt road, then known as Terrace Place in New Hyde Park. Terrace Place today is now No. 9th Place.

1920's:
The Smolenski Funeral Home opens in Greenpoint, Brooklyn by John Smolenski, grand-uncle of the present owner. Uncle John was a Senator for that District, and the Smolenski Democratic Club was named in his honor. Both institutions are still there today. The Smolenski Funeral Home is now owned by Leon Klemantowicz.

1932:
John's brother, Joseph--grandfather of the present owner--opens the Hempstead Funeral Home on Front Street in Hempstead. In 1958, it is sold to the Senko Family, and still operates under the same name.

1954:
Joseph R. Smolenski purchases a house on Lakeville Road in New Hyde Park for $18,500. The former farmhouse and nursery were surrounded by greenhouses, garages, and sheds. Across the street, now the funeral home parking lot, stood more greenhouses and farmland.

1956:
The original Funeral Home had only 2 Chapels and an office when it opened for business as the New Hyde Park Funeral Home in February of 1956. At the time, Floral Park and New Hyde Park had large Polish populations. The Smolenski name was well known, so the ethnic draw was a natural. Business started out well and picked up speed as New Hyde Park grew. In fact, at times it was necessary to take over the family home to allow for viewing.

1958:
A third chapel (Chapel A)  is added to the Rear of the building.

1960:
Chapels C and D are added in an area formerly used for parking.(They can be seen to the right in the picture).

1964:
A parking lot is added on No 9th Place in the rear, at the same time the houses were built on the former farmland.

1967:
Chapel A is enlarged and the existing house is now completely encircled.

1977:
The doctors office on the north side of the building is demolished to make room for Chapel E (to the left in the picture).

1995:
The home to the north of the building is demolished to provide for additional parking.

1997:
The interior of the entire funeral home is redecorated.

1998:
The rear entranceway is renovated, and stonework, skylights and waterfall are added.

1999:
The entire parking lot is rebuilt with architectural lighting, a brick fence, paving, landscaping, sprinkler system, as well as a Meditation Park and Waterfall with granite benches. The area is dedicated on Veterans Day.

2000:
Veterans Memorial Plaza designed by Vince Sauchelli and built by Angelo Parente, is constructed on the site, with a flagpole, stone monument and wall dedicated to WWII Veterans. It is the first monument of it's kind on Long Island. A dedication ceremony is held on Memorial Day.

2001:
An ADA (American with Disabilities Act) Ramp for the disbaled is added to the front porch, which is rebuilt with new stonework,  as well as landscaping and sprinklers. The new ramp has heating tubes embedded in the concrete to prevent icing caused by snow. As a new HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning) system is installed with a computerized centralized control center to provide consistent temperature no matter the season or occupancy levels.

January 31, 2003:
Joseph R. Smolenski, Jr. (right), and Michael P. McBride (left) presenting the title of a van to Sister Ann Horgan, R.S.M., Director of the Parish Social Ministry of Holy Spirit Church in New Hyde Park. The van was donated by the funeral home to help the families of the Parish Outreach Program.

November 2003:
Smolenski, Jr. brings renown services to Raleigh, NC with the creation of Renaissance Funeral Home of Raleigh.

February 2004 :
Open House at Renaissance Funeral Home, as it officially opens its doors
