TRAPPIST CASKETS

Each Trappist Casket includes a skillfully upholstered interior, including a pillow, mattress, and elevating bed.  Two-piece lids, eight comfortable handles, and a clear lacquer finish are also standard features. A removable keepsake cross is provided on all models at no cost, with an option to personalize. Each Trappist Casket meets or exceeds industry standards for strength and size, and all models will fit into a standard burial vault.

Premium Rectangular Caskets(Walnut, Cherry, or Oak)

A beautiful example of elegant design and distinguished understatement, this is our most popular  casket. Available in natural or stained Oak, Walnut, & Cherry (shown below), this model features heirloom-quality joinery, including floating panels on mortised stiles and rails and intricate compound miters. While exemplifying the ultimate skills of the woodworker’s art, this casket is alone in its class for expert workmanship and use of first-rate materials. This dignified casket is the ideal choice for traditional wakes and funerals.  Also available in an oversized model, (Walnut & stained Oak only)  this casket comes with a two-piece, hinged lid and an enhanced upholstery upgrade used on the lid panel, pillow and veil. This is our only hinged-lid model.

Premium Tapered Caskets (Walnut, Cherry, or Oak)

Our Premium Shaped Casket is the traditional old-world coffin. While still popular in Europe, this style of casket is not easy to find here in the United States. The natural beauty of the wood is enhanced by the classic shape, which is reminiscent of times when life was simpler and less complicated. In those days,  unadorned coffins were made by hand. This tradition continues here at Trappist Caskets, where we have been building our own coffins by hand for over 150 years.  Although much slower, we continue to use time-honored, traditional Old World joinery techniques. This casket is available in natural or stained Oak and Walnut (shown above) and comes with an enhanced upholstery upgrade on the pillow and veil. This casket has a two-piece, screw-down lid.

Simple Shaped Casket (Oak, Pine, or Walnut)

Our Simple Shaped Casket, available in natural Oak, Pine (shown below), or Walnut,  is a traditional-style coffin which aptly reflects unadorned monastic simplicity. This model is an ideal choice for those wishing to express moderation and economy without sacrificing good taste. Dignified in its simplicity, this casket is similar to those that we monks have been using here at New Melleray Abbey for the past 150 years. This casket makes a powerful statement in its honesty and earth-friendliness. This casket has a two-piece, screw down lid. 

Simple Rectangular Casket (Oak, Pine, or Walnut)

The Simple Rectangular Casket, available in natural Oak (shown below), Pine, or Walnut,  was the model that initially launched our business. As Trappists, we wanted to offer the public a graceful but inexpensive casket. this design met those goals. Because it is constructed from edge-glued panels, this model showcases the personality (in all its glory and blemishes) of each of the boards used. This model is frequently used as a presentation casket as well as a cremation casket. This casket has a two-piece, screw down lid.
